Die Südsteirische Weinstraße

The landscape here is characterised by contemporary vineyard architecture and a building tradition that is experiencing a renaissance. You can still see the way in which the vineyards, orchards, forests and fields have been cultivated for generations and the way in which traditional customs have been preserved. Nothing about this has changed to this day.

People have plenty of good things to say about the South Styrian Wine Road. You will find the things the region is famous for everywhere you go: hospitality, cultivated vineyards, fresh & fruity wines, Buschenschank wine taverns and the trademark noisy "Klapotetz" windmills. It is these things that determine the rhythm of life for both locals and visitors. The Southern Styrian Wine Road is full of narrow, snaking roads that climb and descend through the rolling hills of Southern Styrian Wine Country.

Over 60 years of the Southern Styrian Wine Route

Over 60 years of the Southern Styrian Wine Route Austria’s oldest wine route is made even more special by the fact that it’s just a few kilometres from the Slovenian border. Another feature of the region and the people who live along the South Styrian Wine Road is the good relationship with the neighbouring town of Gamlitz. The Southern Styrian Wine Route connects 5 municipalities and is the traditional path through one of Europe's most beautiful wine regions - Southern Styria. The 5 member municipalities of the South Styrian Wine Road Tourism Association are: Straß in Steiermark (made up of Spielfeld, Vogau, Obervogau, Gersdorf, Straß), Ehrenhausen an der Weinstraße (made up of Berghausen, Ehrenhausen, Ratsch, Retznei), Leutschach (made up of Eichberg-Trautenburg, Glanz, Leutschach, Schlossberg), Arnfels and Oberhaag.
